Child Time Forgot

Child Time Forgot is based on the theme from a best-selling book, first published back in 1983 by Peter and Mary Harrison. I was asked to direct, shoot and edit this film by the co-author, Peter, who’d found me through a mutual colleague in London. He’d been working on developing a screenplay and wanted to create a pilot to assist in the development of the full length film. Having been producing advertising content, I was keen to explore this drama production and took it on, working to a micro budget. I produced it to be an extended trailer, a little longer than the usual two and half minutes.

As cinema goers, we’re familiar with the path that supernatural and horror films can often take. I was mindful about moderating these generic conventions whilst working to Peter’s script and characters. The musical score was to be integral from the start. For this, I collaborated closely with the very talented composer Andrew Gerlicher in Los Angeles to write and record the soundscape. Audio mastering was also completed in the US, working with sound engineer Mark Sommerville in Chicago.

"John's leadership and energy created the environment for this film pilot to take life from the pages of my book. His creative skills were employed right across the board: from locations, direction and cinematography to editing and post production supervision. The word “committed” barely does justice to John's steely determination to succeed on this demanding project. I found John to be in his element as a Director, of the actors and the post production team. He encouraged and brought out the best in everyone involved. He cuts a line through conflicts. He's flexible but doesn't cut corners. Against schedule and budget constraints, John was expert in producing optimum results in every aspect of the production. John is a workhorse who gets the job done with integrity, whatever the challenge. One of life's contributors, he's not afraid to take risks. He brought intelligence, perspective, innovation, and solutions to the project in spades. The resulting film has surpassed my expectations and dreams. I’m thrilled it’s since attracted the attention of an award winning script writer from Doctor Who and Holby City, bringing my book closer to investment and feature film production. I'm indebted to John for his total dedication and skilled input."
